1. Mary Seacole: The Inspired Nurse and Bold Businesswoman 

Picture it, Jamaica, 1805. Mary Seacole was born into a world that was abysmal when it came to women who were doing humanitarian work and were registered as nurses. The mother of Mary Seacole, on the other hand, was determined to give Mary a bright future as she was a great nurse herself. Due to her mother’s boarding house, she gained relevant experience and decided to pursue a career that focused on traditional medicine. Her courage became quite vivid when she expressed the desire to be a battlefield nurse during the Crimean War. Unfortunately, she faced racial prejudice at the hands of the British War Office, who rejected her application. 

Mary Seacole wanted to make an impact so badly that she paid to travel to the war herself. Once she was there, she built the British Hotel which enjoyed quite the business as it offered food, clothing, and medical care to soldiers. She played a hands-on role in all of this, and in fact, was so dedicated to her work that she often found herself in danger.

Her commitment to her nation and colleagues endeared her to some soldiers, who came to her aid after some time when she had financial problems. In the year 2016, a statue of her was unveiled in London – history will remember her as not just a unique nurse but an original thinker as far as humanitarian shifts are concerned.

2. Rosa Parks: As The Civil Rights Movement’s Mother

The innovative spirit of Rosa Parks resurfaced when she boarded a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, on December 1, 1955. As an African American woman who lived in the South, Parks had to deal with racism daily, especially on segregated buses. A black woman refusal to give up her seat for a white passenger ***would go on*** to change the course of history.

Parks’ act of indiscipline led to a year-long protest called the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It was the first non-violent protest for human rights in America. She did so and her acts of bravery created revolutions across the nation. 

Unfortunately for the world, Rosa Parks and her acts were simply pushing against an unbelievable struggle. Parks was very action-oriented, and she worked together with leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr. Because they were seen as free radicals and nonviolence advocates, her acts continued to spark movements for equality.

3. Shirley Chisholm: The First Women Of Color To Be A Politician 

Shirley Chisholm does indeed hold the record for being the first black Women to behold a position within the congress and this is frighteningly true as she held the 12th district congress position in New York during the year of 1968. She is said to be a diehard social justice and education enthusiast and this could even be true as she had a slightly derogatory phrase alongside her which read, ‘Unbought and Unbossed’ referring to herself.

Her career was already controversial and rather surprising as she set new records historically in the year 1972 by becoming the first African American woman to contest in the presidential race of the United States of America. She had huge challenges standing in her way such as race discrimination and even sexism, but these battles eventually led to a greater lesson which was the representation of women and people of color in politics.

Chisholm was the fastest spider on the Web and when her political work ended and spoke at the October 24, 1995, conference in San Jose, co-chaired the National Women’s Political Caucus, and proposed policies to enhance Women in education and healthcare. Her work should and I hope will motivate women as well as minorities.

4. Michelle Obama: A Contemporary Example Of Dignity And Activism

Pioneering as the First Black First Lady in the United States, Michelle Obama changed expectations of the position as she paid more attention to advocating for education, health, and community service. A lawyer by profession and a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School, Obama’s headline suggested her career commenced in law and later found herself serving in government.

While in the White House, she also initiated other campaigns such as Let, move! The purpose of the campaign was to advocate for healthy living and it was during her life that the Reach Higher Initiative was started, the initiative aimed at uplifting students’ educational qualifications. Her autobiography ‘Becoming’ was a hit turning out to be a bestseller across the country in addition to a saturation number of achievements, the book also chronicled her life thus serving to be a source of hope to thousands.

Michelle Obama better put her influence beyond just the work of the White House. The public campaign she led for the hard issues of gender equality and education and wellness advocacy inspires and makes many believe in the power of her words well after her time as the First Lady.

The battle of Zama fought in 202, is one of the most significant Military Battles of history. After this battle the second unique war ended, and the supremacy of Rome was stabilized in Carthage. With the help of tactics and strategies, the Roman troops distracted the Carthaginian war elephants and defeated General Hannibal. General Hannibal, who is the most outstanding military leader in history, was his most significant defeat. 

4. The Battle of Tours which was fought in 732 AD

The Battle of Tours was fought in 732 AD which is also known as the Battle of Poitiers. Spain’s Moorish general Abd-er Rahman along with his Muslim army reached Tours, France with the Motive of defeating Europe. But the forces of Charles the Hammer didn’t allow the Muslim forces to survive in the battle and Spain’s Moorish general Abd-er Rahman faced defeat. The historical documents of the war are not present so the exact location and the number of soldiers are not confirmed. Without any casualties, the Frankish courses won the battle. Historians also believe that if this battle was not won by the Frankish forces, Europe would have been ruled by the Islamic forces.

The Battle of Okinawa was fought in 1945, this was one of the biggest battles of World War II. In the battle of Okinawa the United States dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima to secure their Island. In this paper, in this battle, many soldiers died including 110,000 Japanese soldiers, and 12,520 Americans were killed in the war. On 14th August 1945, Japanese General Ushijima and Japanese Chief of Staff General Cho surrendered which marked the end of World War II.

The Battle of Orleans fought in 1429, is one of the significant battles of history. In this battle, the France forces fought bravely against the English forces and registered their win. It was one of the significant wins for France. Because of this battle, the French people were saved from English rule, according to historians.

Top 15 UNESCO World Heritage Sites

1. Jurassic coast EKA Dorset and East Devon coast

The Dorset and East Devon coast is in the English Channel coast of South England which comes in the World Heritage site. This cost was added to the World Heritage site list in 2001 mid-December. The Jurassic coast is spread from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset. The total distance is about 154 km. Different types of natural features are seen on this coast including Shallow tropical sea and Marsh, arches, stack rocks, and pinnacles. The various creatures that used to live here, their remains are preserved in these rocks.

2. Archipiélago de Revillagigedo

A group of four volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean famous for their unique ecosystem is Archipiélago de Revillagigedo. The Revillagigedo islands lie in the South, 458 km away from Socorro Island, and are in the Southwest of Cabo San Lucas. Archipiélago de Revillagigedo is in the Weather 698 to 1092 kilometers from Manzanillo, which was entered into the World Heritage list by UNESCO in 2016. These Islands were discovered by Spanish explorers in the 16 century which are located in the west of Mexico. Before the 16th century, there was no sign of human habitation on the island. These Islands are famous for their unique ecosystem which attracts explorers from all around the world.

3. West tropics of Queensland 

The tropical forests of Australia are spread over 8940 kilometers along with the Northeastern portion of Queensland the great dividing range comes under the wet tropics of Queensland. The tropics of Queensland consist of all full criteria which was needed for the selection as a World Heritage site and was declared in 1988. Queensland was added to the Australian National Heritage list on 21st May 2007. There are primitive flowering plant families, animals, and unique plants in the forest of West Tropics. There are many plants and animals in the West that are only found in Queensland. 

4. Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries

More than 30% of the world’s joint Panda are living a peaceful life in the Sichuan Giant panda sanctuaries. Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries are located in the southwest of China and are spread over 9245 kilometers in the Qionglai and Jiajin mountains with nine scenic parks and seven natural reserves. Along with giant pandas the Sichuan Giant Panda sanctuaries, are home to Red Panda, the clouded leopard, and the snow leopard. The centuries were added to the World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2006. 

5. Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst

Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst are spread over a long area of 138000 acres. There are almost 1000 karst Caves in the Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst. The names of these caves were added to the World Heritage Site list by UNESCO in 1995.

6. Bialowieza Forest 

The Bialowieza Forest is one of the largest forests between Poland and Belarus. More than 800 European bison live in this forest. The Bialowieza Forest are some of the last remaining primary forests and are hosting various new and all-growth vegetation flora and fauna. The Bialowieza Forest which is on the World Heritage site covers an area of 1418.85 kilometers. 

7. Lut Desert Eka Dast-e Lut

Lut Desert is located in the reign of Karman and Sistan-Baluchistan, Iran which is a salt desert. This was added to the list of world heritage by UNESCO on 17th July 2016. Lut desert is the World’s 33rd largest desert. The highest temperature of the desert was 70.7 degrees Celsius, which makes it one of the hottest and driest places in the world.

Yosemite National Park is present in the United States in California. This National Park is managed by the National Park Services and is spread over 759,620 acres. Yosemite National Park was added to the list of World Heritage sites by UNESCO in 1984. There are deep forests, cascading waterfalls, deep valleys, thick forests, and ancient sequoia trees in Yosemite National Park.

It is one of the oldest lakes in the world and is 25-30 million years old. It was added to the World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1996.

13. Mistaken Point 

Mistaken Point Ecological Reserve is the home to some oldest fossils in the world. Mistaken is famous for its well-preserved fossils that are found in the south and tip of Newfoundland. The place is covered by layers of volcanoes so it is not possible to estimate their accurate age; approximately the Mistaken point is 565 million years. The fossils are the oldest and rarest, and if one is planning to visit this Heritage site, a perfect guide is needed so that your tour is fruitful. The mistake and point were added to the list of World Heritage sites by UNESCO recently and is a very famous travel destination. 

14. Ha Long Bay

Ha, Long Bay is spread over an area of 1533 kilometers. There are 1,969 islets in Ha Long Bay, in which most of them are limestones. There are almost 14 endemic floral species and 60 endemic faunal species in Ha Long Bay. Ha Long Bay is one of the top tourist attractions of Vietnam with mystical seascapes. The weather conditions of these islands are very hard because of this they are untouched by humans. During January to March, this place is covered with fog and the beauty of this place is amazing. 

15. High Coast / Kvarken Archipelago 

Height Coast / Kvarken Archipelago is present in the provinces of Sweden and Finland on the opposite side of the Gulf of Bothnia. Once the areas of the space were covered with thick layers of eyes which have now melted making the place one of the most attractive tourist places. This place is 930 feet above the sea level and is continuously rising every year. The various hilltops, caves, lakes, bays, and beer enhance the beauty of this place. This place comes in the list of World Heritage sites by UNESCO for its geographical shape.

1. Machu Picchu, Peru

Machu Picchu is one of the most famous lost cities. Towering high in the Andes, Machu Picchu was built by the Incas in the 15th century as a breathtaking citadel, the walls of which were abandoned during the Spanish Conquest and completely hidden in the outside world until rediscovery in 1911 by American explorer Hiram Bingham. Famous for its magnificent stonework and panoramic views, Machu Picchu offers a glimpse into the architectural brilliance and spiritual life of the Inca civilization. 2. Pompeii, Italy

“Rose City,” as the world calls it, with its pink sandstone cliffs, once thrived as the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom. French explorers would later rediscover it in the 19th century, revealing a vast site of archaeological treasures buried by jungle- rainforests. Today, Angkor Wat forms part of a grand legacy of Khmer architecture and remains a sacred symbol within the confines of Cambodia.

5. Tikal, Guatemala 

Tikal was among the most powerful cities of the ancient Maya civilization. With prosperous and daring days between the 4th and 9th centuries, Tikal contained impressive temples, palaces, and pyramids. The city mysteriously waned and deserted possibly as a result of drought or political collapse. When discovered again in the 19th century, the ruins of Tikal revealed the advanced astronomy, art, and engineering talents of the Maya; today, people visit to see these towering structures piercing the rainforest cover.

6. Pompeii of the East: Herculaneum, Italy 

Although overshadowed by its neighbor Pompeii, Herculaneum shares the same fate as the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. Unlike Pompeii, Herculaneum was buried under a more dense layer of volcanic material, which preserved wooden structures, stored food, and even textiles. Rediscovered in the early 18th century, this Roman site offers an exclusive glimpse of life in the past, with lavish villas and colorful mosaics. This is, without doubt, an incredible archaeological site revealing all the tenacity and sophistication of Roman culture.

7. Mohenjo-Daro, Pakistan 

Dating back to 2600 B.C.E., Mohenjo-Daro was among the largest sites of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization. 10. Great Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe 

Great Zimbabwe was once a kingdom at the heart of a powerful southern African kingdom that flourished as an important trading center with its massive stone architectural work, such as the hundreds of mighty walls and a mysterious conical tower, all built without mortar during the 11th and 15th centuries. The city was deserted in the 16th century, following environmental degradation and political instability. Rediscovered in the 19th century, Great Zimbabwe is an example of African heritage and ingenuity that is supposedly pitted against Eurocentric narratives of history.

The Frankfurt Inscription

The silver amulet (or phylactery) was discovered right under the chin of the skeleton, which implies that the individual wore it as a necklace and was buried with it. The grave is dated between 230 and 270 A.D., wherein Christianity was still in its budding years. This finding provides glimpses of the oldest testament to Christianity, as so far the oldest proof of Christianity was at least 50 years later, into the 4th century A.D. However, the most exciting find of the amulet is an inscription that has been studied meticulously by computer technologies. Microscopic examinations and x-rays have been conducted, which allowed researchers to study the thin foil under which the inscription was laid.

The inscription carries a rare and explicit Christian hymn or devotion. This is significant due to the scarcity of Christian records available from that period. Strikingly, the inscription mentions Saint Titus, who was a disciple of Apostle Paul. The inscription also contains the words “Holy! Holy! Holy!”, a chant which was quite uncommon during those times. Furthermore, it carries the term “bend your knees”, which was also a direct reference from Paul’s letter to the Philippians. Researchers have cited that this finding will keep science occupied for many years. This finding not only contributes to archaeology but also to religious studies, philosophy, and anthropology. At a time when Christian faith was dim, it showed that the individual who wore it carried immense faith in the coming of the religion.

Recent Findings from the Amulet

Until May 2024, researchers were set in their ways to read the inscription under the soft foil. By then, some advancements were made through CT scans. This revealed the words bit by bit through high-resolution 3-D models. While some edges were lost due to time and erosion, other words remain open to translation to date. It took months for the researchers to completely decipher the text on the amulet. The inscription was written in Latin, which was also another usual encounter, as texts during that time were mostly written in Hebrew or Greek. 

The open translation now reads,

“(In the name?) of Saint Titus.

Holy, holy, holy!

In the name of Jesus Christ, Son of God!

The Lord of the World

resists with [strength?]

all attacks(?)/setbacks(?).

The god(?) grants well-being

Admission.

This rescue device(?) protects

the person who is

surrenders to the will

of the Lord Jesus Christ, God’s Son,

since before Jesus Christ

all knees bow: the heavenly ones,

the earthly and

the underground, and every tongue

confess (to Jesus Christ).”
